“Lihtsalt labane”
2025
In Estonian, the word “labane” has several meanings. It is the simplest and most rudimentary, at the same time an important fabrication, but the same word also means something vulgar and unpleasant. An interesting contradiction arises. Can something important be vulgar at the same time? Is simplicity always trivial?
The environment around the work contributes to its creation, adding its own pattern and colour code to the textile raw material over time. A new look every day. So, is the mould that (presumably) develops on a work of art part of the work, or just a (random) incident? The work in question started maturing in January 2025 in Kopli and will hopefully continue to do so until…
