“Rooted Perceptions” “Juurdunud arusaamad ehk kiiksud” 2024 Some strange perceptions are very deeply rooted in us. Just like the roots of a tree, pushing deeper and deeper and holding on tight. We affectionately refer to them in Estonian as „kiiks”. People are often reluctant or ashamed to admit their „kiiks” to others. But they can also become unhealty and interfere with our lives. So how do we cope with it all? For example, the author of this work struggles with the strange perception that even very small textile remnants must be preserved. I don’t want to throw away decent material. Of course, these tiny pieces accumulate too much over time and become a burden. And so the material and the idea for this artwork came from some pieces of woollen fabric that had been waiting for a long time.
